Developer Comments: We had two main goals with this Roadhog rework: to reduce the frustration that comes out of how lethal Chain Hook ends up being on most heroes, and to give Roadhog a new tool to help him aid his team as a more traditional Tank would. Changing his primary fire to shoot in a 2-burst cadence alongside slight adjustments to Chain Hook should preserve the ability’s strength as a displacement tool while dampening its lethality. Meanwhile, Roadhog’s new ability, Trash Compactor, brings new utility for him and his team that feeds back into Roadhog being a lethal force on the battlefield. While Trash Compactor is active, Roadhog vacuums up projectiles in front of him, converting them into an explosive projectile to fling back at enemies. Operating as a strong defensive and offensive ability, Trash Compactor should help point Roadhog towards making game-swinging plays with more vectors than just trying to one-shot-combo heroes.

Chain Hook
  • Can now hit teammates.
  • If Chain Hook hits a teammate, Roadhog is pulled to the teammate.
Take a Breather
  • Generates poison gas around Roadhog, dealing 50 damage/s to nearby enemies.

I added more mobility to Roadhog, enabling him to quickly reach his teammates to protect them. The Take a Breather changes ensure that Roadhog is not stuck purely taking damage while using the ability.

Scrap Gun
  • Reload time increased from 1.5 to 1.75 seconds.
Chain Hook
  • Cooldown increased from 6 to 8 seconds.
Invigorate – Major Perk
  • Removed.
Hogdrogen Exposure – Major Perk
  • Added.
  • Take a Breather now heals nearby allies for 50% of its healing amount.

With Roadhog’s combo becoming more reliable, his overall effectiveness has increased. These changes reduce how frequently the combo can be executed and require more deliberate use of Chain Hook. Invigorate has also been replaced due to its overlap with the Bruiser subrole.

Scrap Gun
  • Damage per pellet increased from 6.5 to 7.

Roadhog’s overall effectiveness has remained lower than intended since his minor rework. Increasing Scrap Gun’s damage will improve the consistency of his Hook combo while additionally increasing overall damage output.

Take a Breather (5v5)

  • Resource maximum duration increased from 2.5 to 3 seconds.

Pulled Pork – Major Perk

  • Overhealth maximum increased from 250 to 300.

Reduced consistency on Roadhog’s Chain Hook one-shot has lowered his overall effectiveness compared to other tanks. Increasing Take a Breather’s duration and Pulled Pork’s overhealth improves his survivability and supports more aggressive play.

Whole Hog

  • Damage per pellet increased from 6 to 7.

Whole Hog’s knockback can make confirming eliminations difficult. This small damage increase improves its reliability, especially in open spaces.
